DIY Tie Dye Loungewear for Fall
I think we can all agree that 2020 has been an especially tough year, and there have been some bad things that have come out of this year. HOWEVER, one of the great things to come out of 2020 has been the tie dye loungewear trend!! I’ve made a tie dye loungewear set already that you can see here, but this time I’m making a cozier fall version!
Watch the Tutorial Video Below!!
There are many amazing parts about tie dye, but perhaps the greatest part is that you can make clothes to match each other! So, for this project with Tulip Color I not only made a matching tie dye sweat suit, but I made a matching mask, a matching bandana for my pup, Cooper, and a matching tee for my husband, Brennan. It’s my new favorite thing that you can make matching outfits.. I mean, who doesn’t want to match their dog?!
Okay, so I have something embarrassing to share.. if you’ve been around for a while, you’d know that I’ve made A LOT of tie dye projects with Tulip Color (dress, loungewear, men’s shirts, napkins, throw pillows, and a wall hanging). Yet somehow, I didn’t know the most basic rule of tie dye – you cannot tie dye polyester, it HAS to be at least 60% cotton. I ordered some sweats off amazon for this DIY and *tried* to tie dye them, but they were polyester and let me tell yah – it did NOT work! They turned one solid super light blue color hahaha. Just thought I’d give you that PSA so that you don’t make the same mistake as me!
Anyways, let’s get started!
SUPPLIES:
Tulip Tie Dye Kit (Mermaid Kit)
Teaspoons (for measuring)
BONUS:
DIRECTIONS:
- I decided to try something new with this tie dye project and mix two colors together to create a new color which was so fun! For the teal color I got I mixed ‘turquoise’ with ‘aegean sea’ from their mermaid kit. I mixed an 1/8 of a teaspoon of each!
- Make sure to test out your custom color on a paper towel before dyeing your lounge set!
- Crumple your sweater and add rubber bands (comes with your Tulip Tie Dye Kit) as you crumple to hold it in place. Don’t overthink this step too much! You can always go back and add more dye later!
- Squirt your dye onto your sweatshirt – as much or as little as you’d like! Though, my advice is to add more than you think you need!
- Repeat these steps for the sweatpants and mask.
- I also made a bandana and a shirt for my husband, and you’d just repeat the steps for those as well! Then get creative – you can dye anything white and cotton!!
- That’s it! Enjoy your cozy, comfy matching outfits and the beautiful fall weather!
I am counting down the days until it is cool enough in Fresno to wear this tie dye loungewear on REPEAT! I love how it turned out so much!! Make sure to check out all of Tulip Color’s tie dye sets – they have every color that you could ever want, and then go make your comfy sweat suit, you won’t regret it!!
