Is there anything better than a flowy summer dress? No, no, there is not. I mean, they are the comfiest, it’s a whole entire outfit, and they are perfect for running on the beach! Win, win, win! As much as I like neutral dresses, flowy summer dresses are just meant to be colorful, you know? Sooooo, I took a super simple white summer dress and decided to make it summery!

I’ve made quite a few tie dye projects, like my loungewear set, 3 men’s tie dye shirts, and napkins! I love the techniques I used for those projects, but I wanted to try something new! I’ll also tell you a secret – I’m a really lazy DIYer, so when I say that this technique was easy, I mean it was REALLY easy and turned out so well! I also love that you could customize the colors to anything that you’d like! Tulip Color Tie Dye legit has every color under the sun! I think that making all of the stripes one color would be super cute too, or rainbow stripes? Ah, the possibilities are endless.

I also learnt a little tie dye hack, which is that instead of waiting 8 hours for your tie dye to be ready, you can just microwave it for two minutes – yes, seriously!! You just need a microwave safe container, or you can get one of Tulip’s Two Minute Tie Dye kits which includes the container and the tie dye!

Okay, we better get started on the cutest summer dress DIY (in my very biased opinion), so we can get to frolicking on the beach in our new summer tie dye dresses ;).

Here’s the Tutorial Video:

DIRECTIONS

  1. Fold your dress in half – lengthwise.
  2. Starting at the fold you just made, accordion fold the entire dress lengthwise (see photo)
  3. Use elastics (that come in your tie dye kit) to lightly wrap around the ends and center of your dress, just to keep the folds in place.
  4. Spray your dress lightly with water to dampen it (this helps the dye soak in).
  5. Make sure that your dress is turned so that the folds are facing you – not facing up.
  6. Take your first tie dye color (I used blush pink) and squeeze the dye lightly onto the folds that you made. I intentionally left gaps, so that it was a more abstract stripe look.
  7. Flip your dress over and add your second color to the other set of folds (I used sage green).
  8. Microwave your dress in a microwave safe container for 2 minutes. Wash, dry and then try it on!
  9. Go frolicking on a beach!
