DIY Decoupage Monogrammed Mugs
Hey, hi, hello! Today we are making the PERFECT Christmas gift – a monogrammed mug! Anthropologie always has amazing monogrammed mugs, so why not make your own exactly how you want it?! It is truly SO easy and durable if you use my secret weapon: Aleene’s amazing decoupage glue!
I feel like decoupage glue isn’t that widely known, so let me tell you what it is! It’s a glue that you can paint on top of different materials to seal an image on paper to that material which when finished looks as if the image was always there with the object. It is one of the coolest and easiest DIY techniques and I’m so excited to teach you guys how to make your own personalized mugs with Aleene’s Decoupage today!

As I am typing this right now I am coming up with so many other ideas for mug designs, cause once you start you can’t stop apparently, ha! But, at least now I have a bunch of Christmas gift ideas! I went with a simple black and white design, but now I want to try a fun colored design too – maybe with floral?! Anyways, before I get carried away with ideas, let’s get started!!

DIRECTIONS:
- The first step is to paint on your speckled pattern. I made my speckled pattern using two techniques.
- First, I took the corner of my paintbrush and made teeny, tiny dots all over my mug.
- Then, I got a fair bit of paint on my paintbrush and then splattered paint on the mug by running my thumb up and down the paintbrush bristles which produces a bunch of really tiny specs of paint all over the mug. I repeated this until I was happy with how it looked.
- Using these two techniques makes for a good variety of sizes in the speckles making it look really natural and pretty!
- Once your paint has dried, cut out your design of choice (printed on computer paper) as close to the design as possible, so that almost no white is showing.
- Add Aleene’s decoupage glue to the back of your design and then stick it onto your mug.
- Then take a clean paintbrush and start brushing your decoupage glue all over your mug. Cover everything but the inside.
- Wait for the glue to dry and then you’re done! Enjoy your cute and personalized mug!!
Okay, how fun and easy is this DIY?! I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: SO MANY POSSIBILITIES! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
