DIY Clay Arch Vases

Today I have my favorite type of DIY for you – A HOME DECOR DIY!! I can’t tell you how much I love home decor, and making unique home decor pieces that nobody else will have is just so fun! Which brings me to todays DIY – clay arch vases! Arches are sooo trendy right now and I am ON. BOARD. So making these lil arched vases, which by the way are perfect for propagating plants was a no brainer!

PS. I’ve made SOO many DIYs using Sculpey (like, so many), like dog tags, earrings, a candle holder, pacifier clips, and many more – find them all HERE!

I won’t lie – I was a little bit dreading this DIY because I thought it would be really hard to make and honestly wasn’t sure it would work, but oh my gosh it was so, so easy! Of course that’s mostly due to Sculpey being so easy to work with (I’ve been using it since I was eight). PLUS, you can customize it to your own home decor style by choosing the perfect colors – Sculpey clay comes in a million colors. I went with all neutrals which I’ve been really into lately and I am SO, so happy with how it turned out! They look like something you’d spend too much money on at a boutique, but NOPE – Sculpey!

This DIY is surprisingly simple and easy – which is my favorite type of DIY (of course), so Let’s just jump in and get started on making these DIY clay arch vases!

I used Ecru in Premo, Ivory in Souffle, and Igloo in Souffle

Tiny glass jars in 3 sizes – this pack is perfect!

Exacto Knife

Rolling Pin

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Roll your clay out into a thick snake, the thickness and length depend on which jar you are using, so use your jar as a guide.
  2. Use a rolling pin to flatten out the snake you made. It has to be wide enough to fit the neck of the jar, and thick enough so that it won’t break. Mine was a little less than a 1/4 inch.
  3. Trim off the ends with your exacto knife so that they are flat, but also so that it is the right length for your jar. I made mine so that the jars are about a 1/2 inch suspended in the air.
  4. Find the center of your strip of clay and cut a hole a little bigger than the mouth of your jar with your excto knife.
  5. Then cut a slit going from the hole to the edge of the clay.
  6. Put your jar into the hole using the slit your just created.
  7. Now seal that cut using your finger to smooth the clay back together.
  8. Now time to bake your vase! I baked mine at 275 degrees for 15 minutes. Lay it on its side to bake (you will bake it with the glass jar attached), making sure the arch is the shape you want. You can also use bowls on either side to hold the clay in place while it bakes. Repeat these steps for your other two vases!

That’s it! Now you’ve got the CUTEST trio of clay arch vases that you can put dried florals in (like I did) or use it as a propagation station for your house plants, or put fresh blooms in them – the options are endless! 1. If you’re going to put water in the jars, would you have to seal the Sculpey with something? I like the matte look!
