DIY Faux Ceramic Paint Palette
I’ve had the same plastic paint palette from the dollar store for probably 10(?!) years. I have seen the CUTEST ceramic ones on Etsy recently and really wanted to buy one, but I made one (that’s cuter & cheaper) instead!
If you’re new here, I LOVE using Sculpey and have since I was 8 years old, now I get to work with Sculpey and was thrilled when they asked to partner on this project! If you also love *easy* Sculpey DIYs, you can head HERE! I’ve made light sconces, dog tags, vases, beads and way more out of Sculpey!
This project may look complicated, but it was truly *SO* easy, way easier than I even expected! I made it in probably an hour total! It would make a great girls night craft, and then you can use them to paint after! I used Sculpey Souffle for this project, which I love working with, and you can see all the color options here!
Let’s get started on our DIY Faux Ceramic Paint Palette!!
SUPPLIES:
3-4 packs of Sculpey Souffle in the color Ivory
Pepper Grinder (for the speckles)
Circle Cutters (you can also use lids or cups)
DIRECTIONS:
- Combine you Sculpey into a ball and then grind some pepper on top before you roll it out.
- Roll out your dough, until it is about a 1/4 inch.
- Use an Exacto knife to cut an oval out of your clay,
- Use a cup to cut out a circle on the outer edge of the oval.
- Use a smaller circle cutter, cup or lid to cut out another circle so that it is a paint palette shape. I then rounded all the corners with my fingers.
- I used a wooden mallet to make the divots for the paint, you can use any sort of ball or rounded lid to do this.
- Using the same cup as before, cut a circle out of a piece of clay.
- Roll out and cut a long rectangle.
- Wrap that rectangular piece of clay around the circle to form a cup, use your fingers to connect the edges.
- Use your exacto knife to cut a little indent on either side of the cup, and use a paint brush to round it out.
- Bake according to package directions.
- Spray with a clear, glassy spray paint to give it that ceramic look.
Fill with paint and enjoy!! I LOVE that it has a removable water cup, and a paintbrush holder, plus it’s SO flippin cute! I really, really love how it turned out! If you make your own, pretty PLEASE tag or DM me on Instagram @mikylacreates, and of course check out Sculpey while you’re at it!. See ya next time!
