DIY Circle Boho Wall Hanging

Hi guys!!! I am soo excited about todays post!! I have been so inspired by the boho/scandinavian wall hangings, but wasn’t sure if I could pull off that look myself – but turns out it was so easy and I’m way too proud of it haha!

I have this one awkward spot in my living room, and for months I wanted a little wall hanging for that spot. I knew I wanted something that looked more artisan and expensive, not a homemade looking one that I’d get tired of. So I spent wayyyy too long trying to come up with an idea. I spent a loooong time on Pinterest and ended up combining a bunch of ideas into the one that you see here! Turns out that it was super simple to make, plus super cheap!

I feel like I’m making this simple wall hanging sound way more exciting than it actually is – whoops, but I’m just so dang happy with how it turned out and how it looks in my home! I think home decor DIYs are my very favourite to make, they just make my heart happy!

SUPPLIES:

Metal Hoop

White Sculpey

Large Wooden Beads (5)

Leather Strap (optional)

Gold Paint

String

White Yarn

Tan Yarn

DIRECTIONS:

For the Rainbow:

1. First, make your rainbow – roll out a pack of white sculpey (I made mine very thin)
2. Place a small bowl on top of your clay and use an exacto knife to cut around it, but just the top half.
3. After you cut a half circle, cut straight down on either side to form a rainbow shape. The cut the bottom.
4. Using a needle make a hole large enough for your string at the top center. Then, make 5 holes along the bottom of the rainbow. Start with the center, then make one at either corner, then make the last two holes. I just eyeballed this part.
5. Bake your clay according to the package instructions.
6. Even though my clay was white, I painted it white anyways, because I liked the look of it better. Then I took my gold paint and painted three arches onto my clay. I didn’t overthink this part because I was okay with it not looking perfect because I like the organic look.
7. Take your tan yarn and cut four long pieces for each hole (20 in total) I made mine about the length of my arm span. Make them longer than you think because you will go back and trim them later. Tread four pieces of yarn through each hole, pulling it to the center of the yarn, so that it is folded in half. Repeat for each hole.

For the Beads:

1. Thread your string though the top hole of the rainbow and then attach your first bead, putting both ends of the string through the same hole (as shown).
2. I added two beads, then the hoop, then two more beads. On your last bead thread each end of the string through eother side of the bead.
3. Make a hole on each end of your leather strap and thread the string though each side. Then knot it and trim it.

For the Tassels:

1. Wrap your white yarn around an empty picture frame 10 times.
2. Cut the yarn on one side.
3. Fold your yarn in half overtop of the hoop, and tie a piece of yarn around the top, near the fold.
4. Repeat for all three tassles.
5. Trim your tassels – I made the outer two shorter.
