DIY DJ Halloween Costume
When I was brainstorming ideas for a halloween costume for Bekam, I had a few criteria: it had to be easy, it had to only use things I had at home, it had to represent something that Bekam likes. So, that ended up being a DIY DJ Halloween costume! It was surprisingly easy and quick to make, plus it’s easy to put on and take off, which is a plus when it comes to kids!

Bekam is obsessed with music, and does this one arm dance move, so a DJ costume seemed perfect! But, this costume would really be perfect for anyone who loves music or dancing! I made it for a one year old, but it could easily be made for an adult too, you just need a bigger box!
I honestly can’t get over how fast and easy this costume was, plus it is SO freaking CUTE! Let’s get started on how to make one for yourself!
SUPPLIES:
Cardboard Box
Card stock paper in different colors
Glue Stick
Black fine tip sharpie
Add: Headphone, sunglasses & a backwards baseball cap!
DIRECTIONS:
*Tip: if you don’t have all the colors of paper you can just paint the paper that color. I didn’t have black paper, so I just painted it.
- Glue white card stock paper onto all the sides of your box (I used a glue stick, glued the paper on and then cut the excess paper off.
- Cut a gray square of paper out and glue it onto the top of the box.
- Make your record. Trace a bowl onto black paper and cut it out. Find two smaller circles and trace those on tan and white paper, then cut them out. Glue the circles on top of each other to form a record. Then glue it onto the top of the box.
- Now it’s time to add buttons! I cut out squares from three different blue shades of paper, then glued them in a row on the box. Then I cut our 3 smaller squares, and drew a pause, play and record sign on each one.
- Now time to make your dial and mixer! I traced a circle onto white paper ad cut it out, then drew little ticks all around the outside of the circle, then a cross in the middle. Next I cut out a rectangle out of white paper, drew a line going down the center, with ticks on either side. I cut out a small back rectangle and glued it on top to make a little mixer. Glue all of those pieces onto the top of your sound board!
- Next I typed out ‘DJ Bex’ on my computer, then took a piece of computer paper , held it up to the screen and traced it with a pencil. I cut those letters out and glued them onto a blue rectangle, then glued that onto the front of my sound board.
- Now, simply glue a piece of elastic onto either side of your sound board so that it can be worn. Make sure to measure it on the person who is going to be wearing the costume! I just used hot glue to attach it.
- Now add sunglasses, a backwards baseball cap and over the ear headphones to the costume and you have yourself a DJ!
That’s it!! I’m so in love with this DIY DJ Halloween costume – literally just a box and paper, but SO easy and unique (you don’t want to be the 4th cat at a halloween party – ha!)
