DIY Tassel Tree Skirt
I don’t know about you, but my very favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the Christmas tree. We always make hot cocoa, play Christmas music, have a special meal and make a night of it. To me Christmas season hasn’t begun until the tree is decorated! So, of course I am veryyy excited about today’s DIY – A tassel tree skirt!

I’m the person who doesn’t like to stick to traditional Christmas colors when I’m decorating for Christmas, which I think is pretty common these days! But, that makes it hard to find Christmas décor that is both cute and the colors that I want – which is where this DIY comes in! It’s both cute AND you can customize it to whatever colors you’d like using Tulip tie dye – they literally have every color under the sun, so that your tree skirt can perfectly match your Christmas décor!
I love DIYs where you simply personalize something that you already own – which is this DIY tree skirt exactly. I took a very plain, white tree skirt and turned it into something adorable, fun and trendy! This DIY is actually super simple, but it does take some time, and is what I call a ‘Netflix DIY’ which is a DIY that is super relaxing and easy to make while you watch Netflix, or in this case – Christmas movies!!
Okay, let’s get started!
SUPPLIES
Tulip Tie Dye in your desired colors
I used light pink, lavender, sky blue, and mint green
A plain white or cream tree skirt
Yarn in the same color as your tree skirt
A spatula or frame to make your tassels
DIRECTIONS
To Make Your Tassels:
- Wrap your string around a spatula or something else that is roughly the length that you’d like your tassels to be. I wrapped my string 50 times.
- Cut your string off of the spatula.
- Fold your group of string in half overtop of a separate string (that you will sew onto the tree skirt).
- Tie another string around the top section of your string so that it forms a tassel.
- Trim the bottom of your tassel so that it is even.
To Make the Tree Skirt:
- Use a spray bottle to dampen your tassels.
- Take your dye and squeeze it into the ends of your tassels, making it look like it was dip dyed. I used four different colors of Tulip tie dye, so I dyed all of the blue ones first, then all the purple ones and so on.
- Dry each tassel using a paper towel, and then let them sit out a while longer to dry out.
- I lay out all of my tassels around my tree skirt to ensure that they were evenly spaced, and then I started sewing them on.
- Thread the yarn from your tassel through a large needle and then sew the tassel onto the tree skirt. I kept it simple and just made one loop through the tree skirt and tied a knot to secure it. Repeat this with every tassel.
- That’s it! Put your tree skirt on your tree and fill it with gifts!!
I just really love how this tree skirt turned out and I love how customizable it is! You really could just add tassels to any tree skirt to make it so much cuter! Don ‘t forget to check out all of Tulip Colors MANY tie dye kits to pick out the perfect one! Merry Christmas guys!
