DIY Rainbow Hearts Window to Thank Essential Workers

Have you seen the hearts people have been putting in their windows to thank those on the front lines during COVID-19? I think it’s such a beautiful and simple way to show our support. I also saw this video of hotels lighting certain rooms to create giant hearts on their buildings! As much as I wish I could do that, I don’t own a hotel (obviously) so I think this rainbow heart display will do the trick!

I teamed up with Aleene’s Original Glues to make this display come to life! I think a lot of people are using double sided tape, but honestly I don’t want to be peeling off tiny pieces of tape when I take it down (duh). Soooo I used their ‘Stick and Re-stick’ Glue which is SO cool! You use it just like regular glue, except when you want to remove it, it peels right off, with no residue! When it’s dry it reminds me off that sticky stuff on the back of gift cards, anyone know what I’m talking about?! Anyways, it is PERFECT for this project and works so well!

It is also the perfect afternoon project to do by yourself or with kiddos! Plus, it’s really, really easy and inexpensive! Once you’re done it makes others smile, AND it makes your home extra magical! One of my favorite parts are the heart shaped shadows it leaves 🙂

DIRECTIONS

  1. Your tissue paper will already be folded when you take it out of the package, so use those folds to your advantage and sketch half a heart on the fold.
  2. Cut out that half heart, this should make a bunch of hearts at once!
  3. Repeat drawing and cutting different sizes of hearts (this is important)
  4. I took a few of my larger hearts and cut the inside out, making a hollow heart, I think this added interest to the display. PLUS, you can use the inside of the heart – bonus!
  5. Starting with your red tissue paper put dots of glue around the edge of the heart, then simply stick it on your window!
  6. Create an arch shape with your red hearts, then continue with orange, yellow, and so on!
  7. That’s it!! Enjoy your magical heart display.. oh and stay home 🙂

I was actually a little surprised by how magical this heart display feels in person with the sun pouring through the colorful hearts, and of course the cute heart shadows all over!

It’s so easy to take it off and then re-stick it back in the window!! Such a cool product!

There are so many possibilities when it comes to this DIY ‘rainbow hearts window to thank essential workers’ display, you can totally make it your own and get creative! I think it would also be cute to put all of the hearts in the shape on one giant heart! Anyways, I hope you love this rainbow heart display as much as I do, and that you’ll check out Aleene’s ‘Stick & Re-stick’ Glue! It’s so handy, and I’m already dreaming up other ways I can use it!! Okay, that’s it, hope ya’ll are staying cozy at home during the corona virus!
