DIY New Sew Graphic Tote Bags
Tote bags are one of those things that you always need, but never think to buy – can anybody else relate!? I loveee having cute tote bags, and use them constantly, but unfortunately most of them are well… not cute… at all. Until now – woo!! I’m so happy with how they turned out and how insanely easy (for real) they were to make! I honestly wish I bought more so that I could make more designs – I’m addicted – ha!
Ive made two other bag DIYs before – a donut clutch and a rainbow patterned backpack!
I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet – there’s NO sewing involved which is music to my ears! Yet, they look embroidered, and my secret is Aleene’s fabric glue!! It works soo well that you can even wash your tote bag and it will still hold *mind blown*.
There’s a million possibilities with fabric glue – like gluing a pocket onto your tote bag, or a cute fabric design! But today, we are gluing yarn onto our tote bags to give them an embroidered look that I LOVE!
Okay, I think it’s time to get started!!
SUPPLIES
Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue
Yarn in your chosen colors
Pencil
DIRECTIONS
- Start by sketching your design onto your tote bag with a pencil. I chose a flower design first. I sketched out simple flower outlines in various sizes all over the front of my tote bag!
- Take Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue and trace the outlines of the design you just made with your glue – just add glue one small section at a time.
- Attach your yarn to the glue and then trim with your scissors, then repeat for the next section. I did one petal at a time for my flowers.
- Repeat gluing and attaching the yarn for your entire design.
- Let your glue dry and THAT’S it!!
I also made another more abstract design using the same technique, and that time I used two colors! The possibilities are endless and I totally would have made more if I had thought to order more tote bags! I’m dying to make a rainbow design!!
Anyways, these totes would make great gifts, or you could use them as gift bags and then personalize the design to whoever is receiving the gift – so fun! I just can’t get over how fast and easy they are to make!
Oh, make sure to check out all of Aleene’s glue products – it’s the only glue I use when I DIY! Okay, that’s it for today! Pretty please tag or DM me on Instagram @mikylacreates if you make your own DIY graphic tote bag!
