DIY Hand Painted Floral Wallpaper

You may know that I’ve done painted wallpaper before at our old place – you can see it HERE! However, this was approximately 10x more work than that one. Is that because I’m 8 months pregnant this time? MAYBE. But, it was a lot of work – that being said I am IN LOVE with how it turned out. I also learned a few things that would make it EASIER for you if you decide to try painted wallpaper for yourself!

I sketched the floral design out on my iPad, and if you’d like to use it for yourself, you can download it by entering you email at the bottom of this post!

PS. You can also see other murals I’ve painted (I’m addicted to painting simple murals – ha!) HERE!

So, for my first painted wallpaper (see it here) it was a SUPER simple design, and I freehanded the whole thing. This one however was a lottt more detailed and so I projected it onto the wall and traced it, which makes it easy and so that you need no artistic skills (here’s a great projector).

HERE’S WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY: I traced my design in a pencil, and that made it SUPER hard to cover with paint, plus the paint somehow made the pencil smudge and turn the paint greyish. This made my life wayy harder. My husband traced a few flowers in pink coloured pencil (the color of the paint) and this was WAY easier to paint over, it didn’t smudge and was way easier to cover because it was a similar colour. Moral of the story: trace in pencil crayon that’s similar to your color of paint and you’ll save sooo much time.

Basically all you need for this project is, a design to project (at the bottom of this post), a projector, a pencil crayon, a small paintbrush and wall paint.

Though this project was a lot of work, it was easy to work on it in small chunks over a long period of time. I would just go paint for an hour or 20 minutes whenever I had time, this made it was less overwhelming and it was kind of a relaxing activity to do!
