I grew up in Canada where fall comes at the beginning of September, but now I live in California and it seems like autumn doesn’t show up until November so my solution to that is lots and lots of fall décor to give me all the fall vibes when the weather can’t. Let me yell yah, this DIY fall leaf garland, or fall leaf banner (??) does the trick!

Like all the fall DIYs I’ve made this year, I’m going with a more neutral fall color pallet with toned down oranges and a pop of pink. Orange just isn’t my jam so I went with a less typical pallet, but of course the beauty of this DIY is that you can make it whatever color yours heart desires! Now that I think about it, this would be super cute just in greens which you could use in the spring and summer! Ah the possibilities!

Of course, like 99% of the DIYs you’ll see on here this one is super simple and easy to make – ain’t nobody got time for those complex DIYs! So, I say we just get started!

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Print out and cut out this template
  2. Trace leaves onto felt with a pencil or chalk. I cut out two big and two small leaves out of each color, and then added a few more afterwards.
  3. Cut out your felt leaves.
  4. Lay out all of your leaves, and then mix and match them, stacking the small leaves on the bigger leaves in different color combos.
  5. (Optional) Sew big and small leaves together with embroidery thread, I did 5 stitches on each. I did this to add some interest, and texture to the leaves, but you could also just glue them together!
  6. Lay out your leaves in the order you want them on the garland.
  7. Hot glue the top portion of the leaves onto your string at different angles. Make sure you are gluing the top part, if you glue the bottom section, they will hand backwards.
  8. Hand up your cutie autumn garland to add fall vibes to your home!
