DIY Easy Foliage Mural Idea
Hi! If you’ve been around for awhile then you know that I loveeee painting murals in my house. I painted three murals in our last home – a flower one, an abstract one, and painted wallpaper.
We moved into a new home a couple months ago and I *finally* painted the first mural in this new home! After a lot of brainstorming I decided on a simple mural of a leaf, and I LOVE how it turned out! It takes up this giant wall that was hard to decorate and was so cheap!
I love how neutral this mural is too – it’s a big statement, but not super in your face either. I love to make one color murals, because I don’t want to mural to overpower the room, or look cheesy. This one is PERFECT!
In short – I projected this design onto the wall, traced it and then painted it. If you want to download that design, just scroll to the bottom of the page!
DIRECTIONS:
- Download the leaf design (at the bottom of this page)
- Project it onto your wall – I plug my projector into my laptop to do this. You can get an inexpensive projector HERE!
- Trace your projected design out in pencil. Then turn your projector off.
- Get to painting! I like to use a brush that’s the exact size of the line thickness I want – this makes it a lot easier. Simply trace your pencil lines with paint. A sample size of wall paint from the hardware store will be enough paint (usually under $6).
- I did two coats, but it really depends on your paint color and the color you’re painting on.
- That’s it!! Enjoy your beautiful mural!!
I will forever think that murals are the easiest, most inexpensive, unique and fun ways to fill a big wall AND add some personality to your space!!
See you the next time I paint a mural – probably soon 😉
