DIY Clay Book Tic Tac Toe Game

I should start by saying I have made DOZENS of Sculpey projects, but this is my husbands favourite one I’ve ever made – ha! I’ve got to admit that I love how it turned out because it’s just so dang cute! It’s the perfect DIY for a girls night and you can personalize it however you want! You could make the pieces any shape you can think of – croissants, coffee, fruit etc. Plus, you can leave it out on your coffee table so that it can double as décor AND a game!

Of course I chose a book theme for mine because I love to read and because I haven’t seen that one on Pinterest yet! Also, turns out that tiny books are pretty easy to make, keep scrolling to see the tutorial.

This one takes a bit of time since you have to make ten tiny books, but it was actually pretty simple, and didn’t take as long as I thought. I made it in one evening.

The only thing you need for this DIY is Sculpey clay! I’ll tell you exactly what colors I used, but they have SO many great ones to choose from! I also got to use their brand new color ‘Peony’, which is a really pretty bright pink. I had peonies sitting on my table while I was making this DIY and the clay was the exact same color of the peonies!!

Okay, let’s get to it!

SUPPLIES:

Sculpey in various colors

Sculpey Souffle in the color ‘Latte’
(this was the color I used for the base)

Sculpey Souffle in color ‘Igloo’
(this was the white color for the book pages)

Book Colors:

Sculpey Souffle in color ‘Peony’
Sculpey Premo in color ‘Spanish Olive’
Sculpey Premo in color ‘Lavender’
Sculpey III in color ‘Arctic Blue’
Sculpey Souffle in color ‘Bluestone’

Exacto Knife

Ruler

TUTORIAL:

For the Base:

First roll out a large piece of Sculpey in color ‘Latte’

Cut it into a square shape (mine is 4”x5”)

Then cut skinny strips of clay to form the tic tac toe board (mine are ½ cm).

You’ll need two longer strips (3.5”) and six smaller strips (1”).

I then rolled out a long skinny snake and wrapped it around the edge of the square board to form a border.

For the Open Books:

Roll out a thin piece of colored clay and cut out a rectangle (1/2” x 1”)

Roll out a thin piece of white clay and cut out a slightly smaller rectangle.

Place the white piece on top of the colored piece and use your exacto knife to emboss the center of the book and also etch lines on each side to represent the words.

For the Closed Books:

Roll out a rectangle (.75”x1.25”) of colored clay.

Roll out a tiny rectangle of white clay (.5”x.75”)

Fold the colored clay around the white clay.

Then use your exacto knife to trim the edges.

I used the back of my exacto knife to emboss the spine.
